Sakai Park was purchased in 2015 with bonds after a successful all-island election vote. The undeveloped 22.87-acres offer opportunities for active and passive recreational opportunities. The site is located in the Winslow core at 1560 Madison Ave. N.

The property is topographically distinct. There is approximately 9-acres of upland property that is relatively flat, below and to the east, a pond, stream and wetland complex provides a tranquil setting. The park’s proximity in the Winslow core, Sound to Olympics Trail corridor and its adjacency to BIMPRD’s Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center located on the High School campus make it an opportunity for a convenient mix of current and future park uses.

The park site is named in honor of the Sakai family who cultivated berries on this site as well as nearby properties prior to and after their family’s WWII internment.
