The Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District (District) is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information while complying with applicable laws regarding government transparency and public records, including Chapter 42.56 RCW (Public Records Act).

Information Privacy

The District collects personal information to carry out District business. When the District collects personal information, it commits to the following practices:

1. Data Minimization: Strives only to collect personal information necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it is collected.
2. Accuracy: Take steps to ensure that the personal information it collects is accurate, complete, and up to date.
3. Use of Information: Uses personal information only for the purpose for which it was collected or as outlined in the policy.
4. Disclosure: The district limits access to personal information to authorized District employees, contractors, and public agencies on a need-to-know basis. If required by law and subject to any advance notification requirements, personal information may be disclosed in response to a request for public records under Chapter 42.56 RCW (Public Records Act).
5. No Sale of Information: Never sells or shares personal information for marketing purposes without consent.
6. Secure Disposal: Secure disposal of personal information to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure.
7. Security Measures: Takes appropriate organizational, technological, and physical measures to safeguard personal information from unauthorized access or misuse.

Social Media Privacy

The District values public engagement through social media. Note that the comments, private messages, and posts made on the District’s social media sites are subject to public disclosure laws. See the District’s Social Media Policy for more information.

Website and Internet Privacy

The District may collect certain anonymous data when individuals visit the District’s website, such as the number of hits or sessions. This information cannot be linked to a specific individual. The District may also use cookies small text file placed on user devices by the District’s website—to enhance website functionality. Cookies are not used to track or collect personal information. The District’s website may contain links to other websites. Once a user leaves the District’s website, the District’s privacy policy no longer applies, and users will be subject to the privacy practices of those external sites. E-mail Address Privacy

E-mail distribution lists will be used for the following purposes:

1. Communicating information related to District classes and programs, such as receipts, class cancellations, or program changes.
2. Providing general District information and updates.
3. Distributing notices for the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation when related to the promotion of District projects or events.
