Pool Rules

No one is allowed in the pool unless supervised by a Lifeguard who is an employee of the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center. Lifeguards on duty are always in charge. If you do not follow the rules, you may be removed from the premises.
Children 6 years of age and under who cannot successfully pass the swim license test must be within arm’s reach of a guardian (15 years old or older) and stay in designated areas of the pool. Guardians can supervise no more than 3 non-swimmers at a time.
Children 7 years of age and under are required to have an adult in the facility outside of specific registered programs.
Children 14 years of age and under must pass a swim license test to use the diving boards, rope swing, and the deep end of the facility.
Coast Guard approved Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s) are available for children and non-swimmers at the pool area entry. Those wearing PFD’s must stay in designated areas or within arm’s reach of a guardian (15 years or older). PFD’s brought in from offsite must also be Coast Guard approved.
Lap swimmers must be at least 8 years old, be at a Level 4 Red Cross swim class and have a swimming license. All lap swimmers must swim continuously and share lap space when necessary. Lap swimmers aged 8-12 must swim in the dive tank mini lanes.
Everyone must take a cleansing soap shower in the locker room before using the pool. Soap or shampoo are not allowed to be used with the deck shower, rinsing only.
Please wear appropriate swim attire. No jeans, underwear, or cotton-based clothing. Please refrain from wearing over revealing or see though swim wear.
If you have a disease that can be transmitted by water or have been ill with diarrhea or vomiting in the last 2 weeks, do not use the pool or hot tub. Persons with open sores will not be allowed to swim.
People with seizure, heart, or circulatory problems should not swim alone. People with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, who are or may be pregnant are advised to consult a physician before using hot tub, steam room or sauna.
Diapers must be changed in the designated changing area (locker rooms or restrooms). Waterproof diapers and a tight-fitting protective covering are required for swimming if not toilet trained. Clothes may not be changed on the pool deck.
Running or rough play in or about the pool and locker room areas is prohibited.
Food or drink (including gum) are not allowed in or near the pool. Please keep food items in designated spectator seating areas against the walls. Water is allowed at the water’s edge, but must be contained in re-sealable non-glass, shatterproof container.
Spectators may not freely roam the pool deck. Please stay in designated spectator areas and always behind the white gutter lines.
Do use not use the pool, hot tub, steam room or sauna if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Admission may be refused for those appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
No diving or jumping off the starting blocks unless you are going off the rope swing during designated times or you are in swim practice/swim lessons with a certified instructor or coach.
Diving is only permitted in designated areas. No front flips, back flips, back dives, or twists allowed from the side of the pool.
No glass, rocks, or sharp objects in and around the pool or locker rooms. No tempered glass swim masks unless with a certified Scuba Instructor.
Shoes with cleats are not allowed in the facility.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the facility or adjacent grounds.
People shall not pollute the pool in any manner.
Please refrain from unnecessary screaming/yelling or purposely distracting the lifeguards.
No for-profit instruction in or on District property without written permission from the Aquatic Program Administrator.
Please respect the Aquatic Center equipment. Do not sit or hang on the lane lines. Instructional equipment is meant for instruction only, not play. Inquire with the lifeguard as to what equipment is allowed for specific activities.
Large floatation devices and certain outside toys are not permitted in the pool at the lifeguard’s discretion. No inflatables will be allowed, apart from small beach balls.
In an emergency call 911. Emergency phones are located at the front desk and the lifeguard office. The first aid kit and AED are in the lifeguard office or at the front desk.

Diving Board Rules

You must have a swim license or be 15 years old and above to use the diving boards.
No swimming in the diving area or under the boards unless authorized. No guardian is permitted to catch a child. The dive tank is only available for swimming when the diving boards are not in use.
Goggles and flotation devices are not allowed off the diving board.
Only one diver is permitted on the diving board at a time. Divers must wait for the previous diver to jump before climbing the stairs. The next diver may not jump until the previous diver has reached the exit ladder.
Jump or dive straight off the end of the board facing forward and continue in a forward motion. Front flips are allowed.
No backward, inward, or reverse dives. No handstands, cartwheels, twists or hanging off the diving boards.
Once the diver has completed their entry, they must swim directly to the exit ladder opposite the board. Please exit the pool quickly.
Only one bounce on the board is allowed before diving unless you are in a diving class with an instructor. Adjustments of the diving board fulcrum may only be made at the discretion of the Aquatic Center staff.

Lazy River Rules

No entering the river from the side or by jumping. Please use the pool entrance to enter or exit.
Please do not sit or stand on the raised deck areas or walls of the river.
Non-swimmers or children 6 years of age and younger who cannot successfully pass the swim license test must be within arm’s reach of a guardian (15 years old or older). All participants using a life jacket are required to have a guardian within arm’s reach.
Patrons must go with the flow of the river during Family and Open Swim times.
During crowded periods of time, patrons may be asked by Aquatic Center staff to exit the river at their discretion to take turns.
Small toys are permitted in the lazy river at the lifeguard’s discretion based on safety and capacity.

Hot Tube Rules

Children 12 years of age and younger may not use the hot tub, unless during designated youth times.
Patrons should not remain in the hot tub for longer than 15 minutes at a time.
Everyone must take a cleansing shower before using the hot tub. Please take a shower after leaving the steam room or sauna and before entering the hot tub or either pool.
The maximum number of people allowed in the hot tub at one time is 15.
People with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and women who are or may be pregnant are advised to consult a physician before using the hot tub.

Patrons are not permitted to play with the jets, grates, perform handstands, exercise, or go under water for prolonged periods of time in the hot tub.
No diving or jumping into the hot tub, please use the stair entrance.
No food or drink is allowed in the hot tub. Water bottles may only reside next to the hot tub.

Rope Swing Rules

You must have a swim license or be 15 years old and above to use the rope swing. No adult is permitted to catch a child.
Only one person may use the rope swing at a time.
Enter feet first only. Flipping is not allowed.
Please swing the rope in a straight line.
You must let go of the rope before it begins to return to the wall.
Swim under the lane line closest to the shallow end after letting go of the rope to exit.

Steam Room / Sauna Rules

Shower before entering.
You must be 13 years and older to use the steam room or sauna.
People who have been sick, have heart disease, diabetes, high/low blood pressure, other medical conditions, and women who are or may be pregnant are advised to consult a physician before using the steam room or sauna.
No street shoes; water shoes and sandals only. Please wear a swimsuit when using the steam room or sauna for sanitary reasons. No workout clothing or non-breathable materials.
Food or drink is not allowed. Water must be contained in a re-sealable, non-glass, shatterproof container.
Do not pour or place items, water, or any other liquid on the sauna heater or rocks. Do not use scented oils. Patrons may be responsible for any damage to the sauna or steam room.
Please take caution when moving up to elevated seats.
Shaving is not permitted in the sauna or steam room.
Please be considerate of other people’s space. Cell phones and speakers are not allowed in the steam room or sauna.
Do not use the steam room or sauna if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Admission may be refused for those appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Please limit your sauna and steam room time to 15 minutes. Exit immediately if you feel dizzy or overheated and alert the lifeguard. No exercising is allowed.

Water Slide Rules

Patrons must be at least 42 inches tall to ride the water slide.
One person is permitted to ride the slide at a time. Lap riding is not allowed.
Eyeglasses, jewelry, suits with metal fittings/sharp objects, flotation devices and goggles must be removed before riding the slide. If appropriate, patrons may hold them in their hand while riding.
Stand behind the painted line when waiting at the top of the platform. The lifeguard will give the "ok" for riders to start going down the water slide.
Ride on your back or bottom with your feet going first and no stopping inside the slide flume.
Riders must exit immediately after stopping.
The maximum weight capacity for this slide is 300 pounds.
Caution: for safety reasons, pregnant women and persons with heart conditions or back trouble should not ride the slide.
